Finally, we are able to fulfill the promise we gave fanclub members for a very long time. We got Andrew for this issue. Since it has been so long, we asked Andrew for the permission to ask about everything. And, he was okay with it.
Q: Why didn't you grant more interviews?
A: I did not intend to grant fewer interviews. When I read magazines or watched interviews on TV, I used to imagining one day I might want to go on shows like that. However, it was never materialized because I still think that I would rather keep things to myself. More importantly, I feel weird to talk about myself with strangers.
When I was in elementary school, I was not able to speak or sing in front of the class. I am not sure why I was so shy. Maybe it was because I am a halfie in a thai school. I felt different, therefore didn't want to make myself more different. I tried to blend in. However, in reality, I stood out because of my looks. Teachers also liked to ask me to perform in various occasions.
Q: How was that changed?
A: I believe it's because of my work. I started out when I was a teenager: from playing games at game shops to be in a Hanami commercial with Thanya Thanyaret. She was at the same age as me so I was not too shy with her. I was so focused though. In one scene, the director asked me to eat a rose, I actually ate it. However, that scene didn't make it through editing.
After that I was on a few other commercials: just smiling, biking, jumping off a bridge. Then, I got to be in a movie, Kong Roi 501 Rim Daeng. At the time, I didn't think seriously about being in entertainment business. But I do remember that I was no longer shy or felt awkward in front of people.
Q: How did you juggle between studying and working?
A: I had to skip classes occasionally. I was also permitted to have long hair. The modeling agency asked for the permission from school. I was at Pathomkongka school, everybody had very short hair. I was the only one with long hair. I was teased, but deep down I was very proud.
I went to school on most days. Sometimes I intentionally skipped, but never failed a class. I didn't understand what studying was or was for. I didn't know what I wanted to do when I grew up. I mostly followed other people's direction.
When I was in Mo. 4, I took an entrance examination to study political science at Ramkhamhaeng University. I did that because I followed a friend of mine. I personally didn't understand the word government. But once I studied a few courses, I began to understand. Especially these days, I think the understanding of what government is for is extremely important. These days, people seem to only care about their ideals and not able to see through the issues.
I'd like everybody to think about the people, the country, become less selfish and less greedy. Look at our neighboring countries, they are way ahead of us. They plan, establish education infrastructure to support new generations who will be further developing the country. Their teachers are compensated more.
Regarding research, I believe we should have more research. Our country has both natural and people resources, but lack of support from the government. I ended up getting a lot out of the program at the university. I even got A in some classes. It was actually fun.
Nevertheless , I haven't used any of the stuff I learned in entertainment business. It's because John Dillon, my best friend, died. I came into lakorn as a substitute for him in Mog-Sa-Lai.
Initially, the team contacted me, but I didn't want to be in lakorn so I asked John. He was very good at it, but he died before the lakorn finished. I felt like it was my responsibility to finish his job for him. I didn't imagine from that point on, I would still be here.
Q: Do you think you handle fame with silence?
A: I didn't know fame because I was very young. I didn't know how to deal with it. I knew that people stared at me, smiled, said hi to me. I felt blessed. By nature, I don't like to be in the spotlight, maybe that's why I become a producer. I like to be in the background.
Regarding silence, in the past when I went to work I didn't know how to work with people. My task was with the script, so I studied and focused only on the script. I didn't go around and talk to people. I didn't want to slow them down. That made people think that I'm a serious person.
I didn't know what lakorn I wanted to be in, I simply read the script. Whichever one I liked, I took the job. I had taken this approach for a long time. I ended up having about 1 or 2 lakorn a year on average. Sometimes, 1 lakorn in a year and a half. Recently, it was not in anything for three years.
Q: During the three years, people were wondering why you disappeared while you were still a hot item?
A: I didn't choose to disappear. I happened to have personal matters to take care of. I was in the process of moving the office from Town-in-Town to Chokchai 4 because I needed more space.
I also wanted to spend time like a normal person. I travelled some. I didn't feel like I missed anything. People often said how much money I could have made if I continued the path. I didn't care as much. I don't use money as the measure of success. If I have, I probably didn't choose to do what I have chosen to do. Like being a producer, people warned me, bad economy, bad times, sit tight, don't do anything. If you do TV shows/lakorn, you would be bankrupted. But I felt ready and care less about other factors.
Q: You are a producer, a management position?
A: It sounds like a management job, but it's actually a butler. In theory, I'm a boss, but in reality I do everything. I named the company Mana Production. I got it from the bible. It is the fruit that God gave Isaraeli when they didn't have anything to eat. God gave the fruit, but didn't allow the people to store them. Just take it as they need. I love the meaning of it and that fits my philosophy.
The primary reason why I took the job (Gameloonruk) because my boss gave me the opportunity. Being bankrupt or having no money is not an issue. Everybody wants to see profit, but that's not my focus.
Boss Pravit, Khun Umporn and P' Yui are the main support. They warned me that this one (Gameloonruak) is more difficult than the previous one (Sadutrak) because I had to spend my own money, marketed and produced myself. Their support gave me encouragement. I wish I could do something to thank them. As I always said, if you want me to do it, I would do it.
Back when I was producing Sadutrak, I was hired to produce. The content was a bit more serious, therefore, the rating was not so good. But I didn't think that the lakorn was so bad or unacceptable. I only felt bad that I was not able to fulfill the expectation of the team and my boss.
So, when he asked me if I wanted to do this job, but I have to spend my own money, I already agreed when I heard the first sentence.
Q: So, you tried, what was the result?
A: I talked more (laughing..) because I had to communicate with so many people: from producing, selling, giving directions, and so on.
Q: Could I ask about comments from your critics?
A: People said I am choosy, difficult to work with. I would like to argue. Everybody chooses. I'm not different than them. I may speak way too straightforwardly and don't know how to refuse tactfully. I'm not sure what the issue is. Some people used to working with me, and never said hello afterwards.
It might be because of my personality. I don't joke around while working. I intended to do the best for what I was assigned to do. After work, I didn't go out with them. I sometimes went to closing ceremony, but not normally. I don't dress well, don't have a girlfriend to go with and don't know how to socialize. Overall, I chose to be this way. I accept the consequences.
Q: How about a.k.a "Tua Por" (Father)?
I like it (laughing). I haven't had a wife and suddenly become a father. I don't need to explain to everybody how I am. I was once informed that I was getting a man of the year award as a person who everyone should look up to as an example. I said I couldn't go. I'm not that good. I am just an ordinary guy. I don't want to receive an award and one day I made a mistake, the idol image would be crushed and disappoint them.
I've never covered up my dark side. I'm a normal person. When I see someone doing something wrong, I would speak up and it wasn't pretty when I did that. I know I have temper so I've been trying to hamper it. Sometimes I am still unable to.
Q: Why don't you talk about your family?
A: There's nothing to talk about. My mom is not usually in Thailand, but I still love her (laughing).
People said my mom is beautiful and my friend would be able to recognize her right away because they see my mom and me are alike. But I don't think so, I think I am like my dad, including the personality. With my mom, I often argue with her, not sure why I like to tease her and argue with her. I was very stubborn. She used to say I should have put ash in your mouth when you were born.
During teenage years, I was rarely home and worried her. I never expressed my feelings to her, but now I do more. Especially now, I would like her to stop working and be happy with my dad. I understanding that if she stops, she might be bored, but at least I would like her to lessen her workload.
Q: Did you do anything that made your mom worry?
A: I used to drink, smoke sometimes and went out with my friends. I understand what is right or wrong and am very conscious about it.
After I got the money (from work), I gave it to my mom every month even though she didn't care for it. Now, she should be proud that there are many people loving her son.
In the past, she always said, you should have a girlfriend after you graduate from college. Now, she always asks, when are you going to have a grandchild for me. My brother does not have one for her. I told mom that she doesn't need to worry about me. I'm able to take care of myself.
I currently cannot imagine myself getting married. I think marriage is simply a declaration to the world that you are married. It doesn't guarantee that you are going to be able to be happy in the marriage. I cannot imagine being a father either. I'm not sure if I can be responsible for another person. According to the news, I had already have a child. That's not true. I'm still single.
Q: How about love?
A: Perfect, I led you to this question myself. At this age, I have had a few encounters. I can only tell you that there are two times that I thought I found the right ones. I thought I was going to end up with that person, but finally it was meant to be. I am not blaming anybody.
If I am serious about something (work or love), I will be obsessed with it. Now, I have to caution myself if I were to start with a new person, I need to be able to stop without crashing. I got through those difficult times because of family and friends.
Q: Are you a womanize person?
A: Womanize guys look normal on the surface, but inside they are like rabbit, like hopping. Does that sound like me? (laughing). Everybody likes to look at pretty things, because that's the first thing our eyes see. We have to sit down and talk to find out about each other. In conclusion, I don't womanize.
Q: If you are so self-controlled, how would the woman know that you like her?
A: If I know we are going to meet again, I would not hurry to ask for number. But don't worry, if I'm interested, I would show. I might look self-controlled, but I do send messages. I don't like talking on the phone though. I like to just meet and talk in person.
I'm pretty needy. I need attention even though I don't know how to give it to the others. But whatever I can do, I would do it. Like if she is far away/different side of the world, I would go to see her. If I know she wants to have something, I would give it to her (within my means), not diamonds or cars.
Q: What is your strength?
A: I used to be told that I am mature maybe because she was younger than me.
Q: How about your weaknesses?
A: Nothing serious, normally I was told that I was too playful.
Q: What do you do at home?
A: When I feel lonely, I would walk in the rain like in music videos. (laughing) I was just joking. Loneliness destroys people, but also creates people. Some people need to be alone to grow, be more mature. What was your question again? Oh. My daily routines consist of playing with my dogs, cats, fixing things at home, or hire people to fix it if I cannot do it myself. Occasionally, I cook. Now I have a worker who cooks for me.
I'm an easy eater, especially noodles, meat, eggs, milk. I eat all kinds of protein and a lot of it. I read, watch movies and go out with friends.
Q: I heard you have an extreme side?
A: My life is pretty simple, healthy but if I'm sick it's usually fatal.
I am not afraid of anything. One time I was on the plane that looks like it was going to crash. Everybody was so scared, but I was laughing at each and everyone's reaction.
If you are going to go to a theme park with me, you would be draggged to the scariest ride with me. I feel more fun with friends being up there with me.
Lately, I went to parachute, but nobody wanted to go with me. Eventually I had to go by myself. Strangely, women will likely go with you to do this kind of activities than men.
Q: How do you take care of yourself?
A: When I was young, I wore hat, sunglasses. I didn't intend to disguise. I didn't know what to do because I didn't comb my hair. Later, I put gel on my hair, but I kept sweating like a pig, and I ended up having pimples. I ended up going back to wear hat like before.
Nowadays, I don't wear hat anymore. When I go to barber shop, I just told him to do whatever style he wants, just make it easy for me so I don't have to do anything at home.
I don't usually use sunscreen. I sometimes use day cream and night cream according to some recommendations, but when they depleted, I never replenished it.
I do need to visit dermatologists sometimes because of my work.
Regarding exercise, I played soccer and other sports. Initially I thought stationary biking and track run in the gym are boring because you have to do on your own. But I ended up liking it so much and unable to stop. I have to run in the mornings and evenings to feel refreshed.
Q: Do you shop for clothes yourself?
A: Not in the past, but now I do. My style is cheap. Like 20000-30000 shirt is not me. I am way too easy I think. I have been trying to dress acceptably. My shopping places are Klong Tom, Ja Tu Jak, .. Kasorn Plaza. I need to spend some, otherwise, my money will be eaten by moth. (laughing)
Q: I heard you are very rich, and never spend?
A: I never eat either (laughing). The true story is that I don't care about money. I'm only worried about my dogs, cats and fish. I do need money to buy food for them. Money is not the most important thing in my life. I sometimes want to have a lot, but sometimes I don't.
I used to take on more jobs because I wanted to buy a lot of things. But when I got it, I found that there are not that many things I wanted to buy. Once I got the things, I no longer felt excited. Sometimes, I borrowed my brother's car because I felt like I wanted to drive a luxury car. But later I felt bored.
Money is certainly a factor to establish a family, but I don't have a family. I eat at the set of lakorns. I now spend on stuff I don't think it's too luxury to have. I'd like to be able to eat whatever I like and go places I want to go.
Some people do what other people told them to do, which is not wrong because we should not try to go against the majority. However, some kids just graduated and aimed to be rich. In order to get there, sometimes cheating is a normal way and they would do it and in fact are proud to do it because if you don't do it (cheat), you are stupid. That attitude does need to change. Am I too serious?
Q: What is the most expensive thing you ever bought?
A: I cannot say, money is not my focus, but I have 5 Porche's at home (laughing..). I'm just joking.
When I was a teenager, I would like to have a car but since I was so young, my mom bought me a second-hand car. I wanted to have a Mercedes (mine is old-style). Now, I don't think about it much. Do you judge me based on based on my car, my house and how I dress?
We don't need to fulfill every single little desire we have. It's like you have to be sad sometimes to realize that happiness is already in your hand.
Q: Are you happy with your life?
A: Conceptually I am happy that I'm not taking advantage of people. I don't expect a whole lot. I'm not afraid of death maybe because I'm by myself.
If someone were to ask for my advice, I cannot give love advice to people since I'm unlucky in love. I can only tell him/her to keep working which will stop (temporarily) him/her from submerging in the sad thoughts. Eventually the disappointment needs to be dealt with though. Facing the problem is the solution.
Other things, if you are depressed or stressed out you need to find out why. Is it something out of reach and you want to get it? Normal people's problem is that you want something and cannot get it.
You have to think that you were born with nothing and will not be able to take anything with you after you die. If it's stemmed from economic, then you need to keep working.
And, you need to control the desire to have things unnecessary to your life.
